The short version
- There are no accounts, no sign-in and no ads.
- GridBrief does not use analytics, cookies or any tracking, on the website or in the iPhone app.
- We do not collect, sell or share personal information about you.
- The app and the website only ask our server for public race weekend information.
Who we are
GridBrief (the website at gridbrief.net and the GridBrief iPhone app) is an independent project run by Steed Solutions Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. It is not affiliated with any championship, governing body or team. You can contact us at contact@gridbrief.net.
The iPhone app
The app works by downloading public data files from gridbrief.net. On your phone it:
- keeps saved copies of that data, so it still works without a connection, and a small amount of data built into the app itself;
- remembers your settings (whether session reminders are on, and how long before a session you want them) on the device;
- if you turn on session reminders, asks iOS for permission to send notifications and schedules them on your phone from the session times. These are local notifications: the times are not sent anywhere, and nothing is uploaded.
The home screen widgets download the same public files. The app does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone, does not read your device’s advertising identifier, and has no accounts.
What our server records
Like any web server, the one that hosts gridbrief.net (run by our hosting provider, Krystal) keeps routine technical logs when a file is requested, by the website or by the app. These normally include the requesting IP address, the date and time, the file asked for, and the browser or app name. They are used to keep the service secure and running. We do not use them to identify individuals, build profiles of people, or show advertising.
The website
The website sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser to identify you. There are no forms, accounts or analytics. One page loads one file from a third party: the interactive 3D car on the Upgrades page loads the three.js library from the jsDelivr content delivery network, which therefore receives the request, including your IP address, as any such service does. The Instagram link leaves our site, and Instagram’s own policy applies once you follow it.
Where the information comes from
The race information shown is compiled from public documents and open data, including F1DB (licensed under CC BY 4.0). It is about cars, teams, drivers, sessions and results, not about the people who use GridBrief.
Children
GridBrief is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because we do not hold personal information about you beyond the routine server logs described above, there is normally nothing to send, correct or delete. If you would like to ask what we hold, or raise a concern, email contact@gridbrief.net. If you are in the UK you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date at the top.
